He’s played with The Swingbeats, Franky Perez, Bee Gees Gold, Truth or Dare Madonna Tribute, Dave Perrico's Pop Soul, Las Vegas Pipe Band and the Jazz band, The Kiwi Three. Tim has played a wide range of percussion at various corporate events in Las Vegas. He held a residency at CHICA restaurant playing Cuban percussion in 2021/2022. Tim played in over 20 musical theatre shows back in his home country of New Zealand and has recently played the musicals Little Shop of Horrors and Violet for NCT here in Las Vegas. Tim also composes and arranges for the "Tim Sellars Band” which is his World/Jazz project where he plays Drum kit and Indian Tabla. Tim currently also teaches drums and percussion privately around the Las Vegas area.
Tim has a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Jazz Performance and a Diploma in Teaching and Learning; both from the University of Canterbury. During his Honours degree, he received the Michael Toovey prize for Outstanding Merit.
Tim plays a variety of styles which include Jazz, Theatre, Pop and World percussion. Tim has performed with a range of artists including Mary Coughlan, Roger Manins, Thomas Marriott, Roger Fox, Ali Harper, Fiona Pears and Francisco Torres . He has played numerous shows with the Christchurch Symposium Big Band, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, and can be heard on a diverse selection of albums; including recordings with well known New Zealand artists Ali Harper, Anna Whitaker, and Fiona Pears. In 2017, Tim released his first album “The Puzzle” where he played Middle Eastern percussion accompanied by upright bass, guitar, and flute. The group went by the name Mukhlisa.
Tim spent two years travelling around the world working for Holland America Cruise Lines where he played in the Showband and the Jazz Trio. He also played smaller contracts for P&O Cruise Lines with Rock 'n' Roll band The Goldonies who were initially formed for the show “One Man, Two Guvnors” at the Court Theatre.
Tim has played in many musicals for the Court Theatre, NASDA, and Showbiz in Christchurch, New Zealand.
